Experimental drug shows promise in reversing memory loss for early Alzheimer’s patients
“A paradigm-shifting study from the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) shows an experimental drug, GL-II-73, has the potential to restore memory and cognitive function in a mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease.” ( https://doi.org/10.1016/j.neurobiolaging.2024.12.001)
Testing has not been completed on this potential new drug, based on nature
The researchers found that boosting the action of the neurotransmitter α5-GABA-A reduced memory deficits. They needed a starting point when doing their work. We searched several databases and uncovered what they likely started with, Corydalis, Magnolia bark, Apigenin (chamomile), and Baicalein (Scutellaria baicalensis). All of these have science supporting brain health and showing they have α5-GABA-A effects.

Misdiagnosis of symptoms is very common in the elderly, and a number of medical issues must be ruled out. Many of these symptoms can be caused by treatable conditions including infections, prescription and over the counter drugs, nutritional deficiencies and hormone imbalances. If left untreated, these conditions may result in permanent brain damage.
At CHS we follow the guidelines of The American Academy of Neurology (AAN) in diagnosing and treating Alzheimer’s and other dementias. They specify what tests are necessary to diagnose Alzheimer’s and other dementias, and what steps must be taken in assessing cognitive impairment.
